BROOKS FALLS

Brooks Camp is a prime location for observing bears during the salmon run, which lasts from mid-June to the end of September. Dedicated bear viewing platforms offer a safe and unobtrusive vantage point, allowing visitors to witness bears attempting to catch salmon as they jump the falls.

For wildlife photographers, capturing this moment should definitely be on their bucket list. With the designated trails, viewing platforms, gear caches, and a bridge that crosses the river at Brooks, you can view bears with or without wearing waders.

The walk from Brooks Camp to the viewing platforms is just over a mile, and your guide ensures an informative and safe experience. Brooks Camp is a host to a variety of wildlife, and is also an important piece of Alaskan cultural and geologic history.

July sees the highest concentration of bears at the Brooks Falls platform, however there are opportunities to observe bears at the lower river platform, the beach, and even right in camp during the entire season. As you prepare for your journey, you can observe these bears live through the Explore.org Bear webcams, providing an exciting preview of your upcoming adventure.
