CHIP & SKYLAR LAMONT
Skylar and Chip Lamont met in 2015 while guiding in southwest Montana, and they have been working side by side ever since. Skylar grew up near some of Michigan's most famous fly fishing rivers and on Florida's Gulf Coast, while Chip was raised in Maine, exploring brook trout streams. After they met, the couple traveled together in Skylar's hand-built teardrop trailer, exploring much of the "lower 48". They lived on a sailboat in the Florida Keys, managed and guided at a guest ranch in Wyoming, fished their way across Patagonia, and even attempted to raise rodeo bulls for a famous musician in Montana before eventually settling in Alaska.
In 2017, Chip and Skylar became licensed Coast Guard captains and started working as fishing guides for Chris and Linda Branham at their previously owned lodge. The couple eventually got married in a small ceremony at the lodge, on the river, while wearing their waders and surrounded by the mountains of Katmai. After their long guiding season, they spent their winters traveling or beating up a Jon boat to search for redfish in Florida.
Chip obtained his pilot's license in 2018 and spent the following guide seasons gaining experience flying Helio Couriers and earning additional endorsements. In 2021, they purchased their first plane, a 1947 Cessna 140, and flew it from Maine to Florida, where they kept it for their winter flying activities.
In 2024, the Lamonts moved to Alaska full-time and joined the Branhams and the Sterns to build Katmai Sky Lodge from the ground up. The couple experienced their most challenging summer yet, spending months living in a tent on untouched land as they began construction. They flew in every nail, tool, and piece of lumber to the lodge site whenever the weather permitted, and successfully completed the first two cabins on the property. While exploring the breathtaking "home river" and the surrounding trails at Katmai Sky, they grew more enamored with the pristine ecosystem of Bristol Bay. They are excited to welcome guests to share the unique experience of such a magical place, all while emphasizing conservation and exceptional guest experiences.
